ACCOUNT EXPLANATION

Income from sundry sources not expressly provided for elsewhere in this Manual, such as storage fees; sale of scrap; income from vending machines; income from assets in Account 1830, Other Assets; and increases and decreases in the dealership’s equity in subsidiaries and affiliates.

COMMENTS

Recoveries of accounts receivable previously written off should be credited to Account 1290, Allowance for Doubtful Receivables, or to Account 8700, Bad Debts, depending on whether the reserve method or the direct write-off method is used. See Account 1290, Allowance for Doubtful Receivables, for further information.
Since special treatment is required for income tax purposes for credits to this account arising from increases in the dealership’s equity in subsidiaries and affiliates (see Account 1831, Investments—Subsidiaries & Affiliates), dealers should consult tax counsel as necessary.
